Family Folklore, 2023, Digital, 11.2 x 5 in
A nostalgic illustration, loosely in the style of a children's book spread. Our assignment was to illustrate a piece of "family folklore"-- we needed to translate family history, mythology, or memory into an image and text. We were encouraged to exaggerate. I thought of my great-grandparents' creek, and the fossils we used to find imprinted into stones there. I also thought about how many generations of children have explored that creek, and how much more exploring there is to be done. I hoped to express the mythos of the creek; a source of endless childhood mystery and wonder.
